Make sure your goal is something that you are so passionate about their simply is no quitting!
If you are not passionate about your goal, or it has not come from your deepest desires, it is too easy to say, "next week", "next month" or "next year". Be a little selfish, put yourself and your most wanted desires first for a change and do not feel guilty for doing so! If it helps, noone but you has to know your reasons for setting your goal, it is YOURS. Own it!
2: WRITE IT DOWN AND GET SMART
No I am not suggesting you call in Maxwell Smart.
Now that you have a goal you are passionate about, write it down!
Pick up a pen and paper and write down your goal before you read any further. Do it! NOW!
Now that you have written your goal down, we are going to run through a quick checklist to ensure you have measures in place to achieve your goal.
Is it SMART?
EXAMPLE SMART GOAL
I will be at/under 10% body fat on June 30th, 2017.
Is your goal specific?
Are you able to track/measure your goal?
(Measured with skin caliper / bio-scan testing)
Is your goal able to be attained?
(<10% BF is an attainable goal)
Is your goal realistic within the given time and availability of resources?
(<10% BF is a realistic goal within the time period / resources)
Is there a time period / set date to hold you accountable to your goal?
(June 30th, 2017)
Now that you have a SMART goal, break it into actionable steps. If your goal is a longer term goal, that is okay too! Break your long term goal in to short term goals and repeat the SMART process for each.
Write your goal down and put it in as many places as you can to ensure see it as many times as possible everyday! The bedroom, the fridge, bathroom mirror, car visor, toilet door... The list goes on!
3: TELL EVERYONE, ASK FOR HELP AND TAKE ACTION
Create a private message or a closed group page with a circle of supportive friends or post it on your page and let people know what your goal is and what you are trying to achieve. Remember they do not need to know or understand your why or reason behind your goals. This is simply another accountability measure. If anyone is unsupportive, simply remove them from the conversation, you do not need naysayers trying to keep you anchored!
Not sure where to start or find that you are constantly setting goals and at the first road block fall off the wagon?
Ask for help! Within your closed group ask if anyone would also like to partake in the adventure or reach out to someone who has achieved what you are setting out to achieve. You are not the first, nor will you be the last person to undertake the journey you have set yourself. Surround yourself with people who support and hold you accountable to your goal.
Now that you have your support crew, TAKE ACTION! Start with your first actionable step of your SMART goal, TODAY! Be sure to check in regularly with your support crew to ensure you keep focused on the goal at hand.
4: INVEST IN YOURSELF
Seek out a professional in the area of your goal and pay for their time, it will return tenfold. Yes, it will cost you money, but it will save you precious time, costly mistakes and see you achieving your goals sooner than you may have ever dreamed of. If your car is in need of repair do you take to it and try to figure out the problem yourself? Set aside a portion of your income to invest in yourself, and again, DO NOT feel guilty about it!
